Many secondary students that struggle, are frustrated, and/or have given up on mathematics often have misconceptions about fractions. These misconceptions hinder success with higher level mathematics. Teachers have reported that students can successfully solve algebraic equations with integers  but falter with equations that involve rational numbers. OGAP fractions training has made a difference for teachers and students in many New Hampshire schools. This webinar explores a key idea from OGAP Fractions–Fractions are Numbers. We will examine student work to understand a key misconception many students have about fractions, and learn how visual models, particularly number lines, can help frustrated students to develop deeper understanding of fractions.
